According to BristolLive, Sheffield Wednesday retain an interest in Bristol Rovers striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, although no bids have been made for the League One marksman.
What’s the word?
It’s claimed that the Owls are one of several clubs that have sent scouts to watch Clarke-Harris this season, with Hull City, Middlesbrough, Preston North End and Queens Park Rangers just a few of the other names linked.
However, the latest news suggests that no bid has been made since Hull’s derisory £450k offer in the summer, but it appears as if the club are bracing themselves for more soon.
The report also states that the baseline figure for the 25-year-old is around £2m with CEO Martyn Starnes admitting last month that “every player has a value.”
Wednesday have been ‘constant’ in their interest of Clarke-Harris with talks over a new contract at the Memorial Stadium looking unlikelier by the week.
Forget Wickham
Much of the talk in recent weeks has been surrounding the Owls’ pursuit of Connor Wickham, but maybe it is time to put that to rest as an injury-prone player on Premier League wages is an awful risk to take to fill the 12-goal void left behind by Steven Fletcher.
Which is currently their biggest worry given no other player has surpassed three for the season.
Alan Nixon believes the percentage they will pay towards his wages is some way below what Crystal Palace expect. He is currently on £60k-per-week, according to Spotrac, which is going to add up come the end of the season.

It’s also merely a loan so if he does well, he will no doubt go back into Roy Hodgson’s plans.
Wednesday should change their attitude and try to make a deal for Clarke-Harris work, whether that’s a loan upfront and a permanent fee later on remains to be seen, but he could be a much better option than a player who has only started 26 games in four years.
Per Transfermarkt, the Rovers striker has scored 11 times in all competitions this season whilst it is 22 goals in just 40 appearances for the Gas.

At just 25, he is yet to hit his peak years, which can only benefit the Owls longer-term, especially as the youngest member of their current front line is four years his senior.
Clarke-Harris could be the wiser investment if Wednesday’s hierarchy can make a deal work. It’s clear they remain interested as this new report suggests.
And in other news, Monk’s revival of this Jos Luhukay flop shows why the club have the correct stance amidst keen interest…
