Jan Vertonghen has revealed that he will not be signing a new contract at Tottenham for now, but that it doesn’t mean that he’s looking to leave White Hart Lane.
The Belgian defender was expected to put pen to paper on a fresh deal after a summer of uncertainty, with his agent having claimed that talks with Spurs had been positive.
Barcelona and Manchester City were just two big names to have been linked with the classy enforcer, however despite his obvious frustrations last term at the club’s lack of progress on the pitch and managerial mishaps off of it, he stayed put.

Talk of a move next year in search of Champions League football had been doing the rounds, but his agent’s admissions appeared to be proof that Vertonghen was once again settled in north London.
Yet now he has revealed that a new contract is not on the cards, but that he’s not preparing to leave Spurs:
“I am not signing. No. We agreed not to. I would prefer not to say why.” He is quoted by the London Evening Standard.
“I still have four years left. I am happy at the club and I think they are happy with me. That’s where it ends. I am very happy, we have a good manager, we have a good team and a lot of good players. The squad is very big and you have to work hard to play every game, and I hope I am playing again soon.
“It is good [under Pochettino]. He is working well with a lot of videos and individually he talks a lot with the players. He is a manager who expects a lot from players. We work hard and that is good — it will pay off in the end.”
