The Mail on Sunday’s chief sports writer Ollie Holt has ripped into Everton caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson on Twitter following his decision to take Moise Kean off just 18 minutes after bringing him on in his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.
What happened then?
Well, the former Toffees striker had brought the 19-year-old on in place of Bernard with 20 minutes remaining on the clock at Old Trafford, but as per WhoScored he only had nine touches and committed three fouls before he was surprisingly taken off 18 minutes later.

Ferguson clearly wasn’t happy about something despite the fact he said the substitution was made to waste time in the latter stages of the contest post-match, but Holt certainly wasn’t impressed.

He used words like “unnecessarily cruel”, “humiliating” and “pointless” in his tweet, as he laid into a man who has surely put himself in contention for a longer spell at the helm having taken four points from his two games in charge against United and Chelsea.
What happens next?
According to The Daily Mail, Ferguson was going to speak to the teenager today about the events at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’, which was actually more of a nightmare for the summer signing given the decision came in front of more than 73,000 people.
It is the sort of incident that could be the making or the breaking of a player, and Everton and their 47-year-old caretaker boss must hope it is the former given they spent an initial £25.1m fee on him during the summer transfer window.
Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…
The fact he is still so young and has visibly struggled to adapt to Premier League football does make things a little bit more difficult on paper however, but perhaps Ferguson can make amends for this by handing the Italian a start in the League Cup fixture against Leicester City on Wednesday.
