West Ham fans on Twitter were full of praise for Declan Rice after the youngster’s performance in the 3-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
The Hammers took the lead after just 11 minutes against a lacklustre Everton side, as Arnautovic broke the offside trap and squared to the new man Andriy Yarmolenko, who had a simple job of tucking the ball past Jordan Pickford.
Then, 20 minutes later, Hammers captain Mark Noble pounced on a poor ball from Pickford and found Yarmolenko, who cut inside onto his left-foot and curled a perfect finish beyond the Everton and England goalkeeper.
On the stroke of half-time, Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled one back for the Toffees with a sublime header, but Arnautovic’s goal just after the hour mark put the game to bed following some neat play with Pedro Obiang. Rice, who can also play at centre-back, was given the job of marking Everton’s playmaker and stand in captain Gylfi Sigurdsson. The 19-year-old protected his defence admirably and kept possession ticking for the Hammers.
