A rather unheralded signing when Sven Mislintat was running the show in terms of recruitment, Konstantinos Mavropanos has only been able to show glimpses of his potential in his time at Arsenal.
The Greek powerhouse was even described as a “talent” by Arsene Wenger before a clash against Manchester United back in April 2018.
Unfortunately for both him and the Gunners, injuries have disrupted his progress in a major way, and he had spent the majority of this current campaign on the side-lines. But on late Thursday afternoon against Standard Liege in the Europa League, the 22-year-old made his long-awaited return, but it was a largely forgettable display.
As per Sofascore, he won only six of his 13 total duels, made one error that directly led to a shot, and lost possession nine times. And after watching his performance, Arsenal fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the centre-back.
A couple of Arsenal supporters even suggested that they should simply look to get rid of him as soon as possible, with one in particular calling for young prospect Zech Medley to be given a chance in the first-team.
Having just made his comeback from injury, it was perhaps slightly understandable for Mavropanos to look rather rusty. The defender will need time and patience to get back up to speed, and the busy Christmas schedule could be the perfect chance for him to get some much-needed games under his belt.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s duo of Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe added one key thing against West Ham.
