As reported by Danish outlet BT, Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko has revealed he is expecting to stay at the club beyond the transfer window deadline.
What’s the story?
Earlier this month Sviatchenko had been linked with a move back to his homeland, with some outlets like The Sun reporting the Hoops had rejected a £2.7m offer for the Danish international from Copenhagen.
Now though, it seems any chance of him leaving Celtic on deadline day is slim, with the player himself revealing he is set to stay.
As quoted by BT, Sviatchenko said:
I expect to stay at Celtic. Here I will remain third choice in the central defence, but that may change when I come back. Now it’s about getting as strong as possible so I can join in an exciting and busy autumn season with the Champions League and many other important matches.
Currently injured, Sviatchenko has a lot of work to do to force himself back into Brendan Rodgers’ first team plans ahead of Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic, but going on his quotes he seems to relish the task ahead.
Sviatchenko has made 63 appearances for the Scottish champions since joining in January of 2016 but has found his first-team opportunities limited in 2017 after a resurgent Boyata built a classy partnership with Simunovic.
