Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi spent 16 years of his international career waiting on a first senior honour with his country. That duck was broken at the 2021 Copa America, with the floodgates being opened.

Messi went on to savour Finalissima glory the following year, before lifting the World Cup at Qatar 2022. Argentina successfully defended their Copa America crown in 2024, allowing their captain to cement his standing as the most decorated player of all-time.
