Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that his team are determined to go all the way and win the Premier League title this season following Wednesday night’s triumph over Chelsea.
The North London outfit currently sit seven points adrift of the boys in blue, who lead the way in the standings.
However, Spurs’ 2-0 victory, which included headed goals from Dele Alli, has sent a warning out to their rivals, not only because they defeated Chelsea, but they ended their opponent’s winning streak.
Antonio Conte and his men needed just one more win to set a new Premier League record of 14 consecutive victories, but they were stopped in their tracks by Tottenham.
Pochettino’s team squandered the opportunity to take the title race down to the wire last season as they crumbled in their final few games, which handed the trophy over to unlikely champions Leicester City.
This time, though, the players are mentally ready to take on the challenge, according to the Argentine. He told BBC Sport:
“It is a massive victory, a very important three points to reduce the gap at the top of the table. It was a very tough game, we were playing one of the best teams in Europe, so the value of the victory is massive.
“It makes us very proud and we showed character and were competitive. It is one step forward for the team and is important to keep going. Football is about belief.
“We have shown we can challenge for the big things. We are in a good position, Chelsea is in a very good position, but we are fighting to get points and to reduce the gap above us. We are relaxed, the only thing is to keep going.”
