A key stumbling block has emerged in Manchester City and Juventus' negotiations over a January transfer deal for midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The Serie A side are in talks to sign the 28-year-old in the January window. However, while City are determined to sell him in a permanent transfer, reports that Juventus would rather sign him on loan until the end of the season.

Phillips wants to leave City as soon as possible and has been linked with Juve, Newcastle and Manchester United. The England international is said to be demanding guarantees over playing time before settling on his next club as he has made just 10 appearances in all competitions this season – four in each of the Premier League and Champions League.
