According to multiple reports in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United want to sign Ben White from Brighton on loan.
The young centre-back is an unknown quantity at Championship level, but some of his previous performances suggest that he may be the perfect player for Marcelo Bielsa to mould.
Bielsa’s talent
The Argentine has had a knack for bringing the best out of young players and helping them fulfil their potential during his managerial career.
As recently as last season, Leeds talents Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton improved under Bielsa’s management having made 25 and 24 appearances in all competitions respectively in their breakthrough campaigns in the first team.
Gabriel Batistuta once described him as “the only manager to ever leave an indelible mark on me.” And praise doesn’t come much higher than that. If the South American can develop his game, then White could become a fantastic defender under his tutelage.
White’s potential
The Brighton man has shown signs that he has the potential to make a mark as a Championship centre-back through his performances in the FA Cup and League Cup.
When Newport beat Leeds 2-1 back in 2018, White was one of the standout performers – although whether he can perform against that calibre of opponent on a weekly basis remains to be seen.

On the other hand, the 21-year-old is the perfect project for the Argentine. His performances in the past have proven that he is capable of producing the goods, but it may take a coach like Bielsa to get him playing at that level every single week.
