Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Harry Kane is a doubt for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United, reports the Daily Star.
What’s wrong?
The prolific striker was left out of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham United at Wembley due to fatigue.
The North London outfit have played 14 games in all competitions so far, and Kane has started 12 of them.
After witnessing his team get beaten 3-2 by the Hammers, Pochettino told reporters:
“We’ll see, we’ll see. We need to assess the team because we were forced to rotate for different reasons and we’ll see what happens in the next few days.”
How bad could this be?
Kane is Tottenham’s talisman and without him, the team’s chances of winning at Old Trafford diminish.
Spurs are certainly not a one-man outfit, but the 24-year-old has scored just under half of the club’s goals so far this season.
Given that 11 of Kane’s goals came in September alone, he is in a rich vein of form and could do some damage if unleashed against United.
Pochettino could be taking a tactical approach by publicly pouring doubt over his striker’s fitness.
Therefore he is not serving up his team on a platter for Jose Mourinho.
